The Traveling Swiss Says: A true crown jewel perched above Zermatt, the Riffelalp Resort is a 5-star hotel located along the Gornergrat train line. To reach this resort, you’ll take the Gornergrat Railway from Zermatt and then transfer to a hotel-specific train. The journey is worth it, as you’ll arrive at this sprawling luxury property with views so breathtaking you may never want to leave. The rooms are beautifully decorated, and naturally, the views of the Matterhorn are spectacular. The resort offers plenty of amenities, including two delicious on-site restaurants, a bowling alley, and its crown jewel—the highest spa in Europe. The spa boasts a well-equipped facility, featuring both an indoor pool and a heated outdoor pool with what might be the best Matterhorn views we've ever seen. The resort's remote location provides stunning scenery and ski-in/ski-out access during winter, but keep in mind it does require a bit more logistical planning as you’ll need to coordinate with the train schedule to access Zermatt.

The Traveling Swiss Says: If you’re looking for a unique spa experience, the Schloss Hotel Zermatt is a great choice. This 4-star hotel is located just meters from the Gornergrat and Zermatt train stations, making it incredibly convenient. For a hotel with such great amenities, we found the prices to be very reasonable. The Schloss is the ultimate wellness destination, boasting a newly renovated on-site spa and pool area. It's Switzerland’s first CBD spa, offering CBD and adaptogenic treatments designed to deeply relax both body and mind. While the standard rooms are on the cozy side, they feature upscale finishes, especially in the bathrooms, and the balcony views of both the Matterhorn and Gornergratbahn are stunning. In the evenings, you can unwind with a drink at the bar or enjoy the large game room. Start your mornings with their feel-good breakfast buffet, which offers a wide variety of nutritious superfoods to fuel your day. While the property doesn’t have a dining option beyond breakfast, its prime location makes dining out easy and convenient.

The Traveling Swiss Says: One of the most luxurious hotels in Zermatt is the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof, a 5-star property located in the heart of the village, right next to the Matterhorn Museum. The magic starts before you even arrive, with a horse-drawn carriage waiting at the train station to whisk you and your luggage to the hotel. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by their impressive bar and terrace, a popular spot for aperitifs or après-ski drinks. The rooms are designed with chic alpine elegance and luxurious touches, including the Alpeor products in the bathroom, which we particularly loved. And, of course, the views of the Matterhorn are stunning. The hotel offers a variety of dining experiences, from fine dining to the more casual “Say Cheese!”—a restaurant located in the cellar dedicated entirely to cheese. You’ll also want to check out the on-site spa, which features multiple saunas, hammams, a large indoor swimming pool, and a hot tub.
